Loretta DeGrazia,
President of East Coast Petroleum, wins Metro South Chamber of Commerce Athena
Award July 11, 2006 |
At the June, 2006 meeting of the Metro
South Chamber of Commerce, the Athena Award, sponsored by both the Chamber and
Sovereign Bank, was presented to Loretta DeGrazia, President of East Coast
Petroleum Company of Stoughton. This annual honor is presented by local
chambers of commerce in both the United States and several other countries. The
award honors DeGrazia for exemplifying business success, serving the community
in a meaningful way and for assisting other women in developing their own
leadership potential. Striving to create a business in a "man's
world", DeGrazia started her business with only sweat equity and her own two
feet. She now runs a multi-million dollar organiza-tion, a full-service heating
oil and air conditioning company. Over the years, she and the company have been
extremely active in both civic and charitable activities. Created in
1982 in Lansing, Michigan, the Athena Foundation is an international
organization dedicated to creating leadership opportunities for women. The
Foundation has relationships with chambers of commerce, universities,
busi-nesses and sponsors across the United States and around the world.
The Athena Foundation philosophy maintains that by elevating and honoring
women of talent, expertise, solid values and leadership in a public way that
they will serve as role models for other women inspiring them to also lead and
to strive for excellence. The Foundation's sums up its philosophy in Plato's
words: " What is honored in a country will be cultivated there." |
