Are noisy, drippy window units getting you down? Do you have
problems heating and cooling certain spots in your home? Does your home lack
the duct work necessary for central heat and air? It sounds like a Mr.
Slim® split-ductless heating and cooling system is the solution for you.
Popular for many years in Europe and Asia,
split-ductless systems are becoming just as popular in the United States, too.
Comprised of a remote outdoor unit and a mounted indoor unit, the two are
connected via small refrigerant lines that require only a three-inch opening in
the wall.
Mr. Slim units are ideal for year-round
comfort in your home. They're perfect for new additions, retrofits, finished
basements and sunrooms, in addition to existing rooms of the house. Just ask
Norm Abram of The New Yankee Workshop and This Old House. He's used Mr. Slim to
cool his workshop for years!
Mr. Slim saves resources by allowing
homeowners to heat and cool only the spaces being used, as opposed to central
heat and air units that maintain the temperature in the entire house.
Mr. Slim
is also much more attractive than its window unit counterparts. After all, who
wants to occupy a window with an air conditioner when you could mount it out of
site high on the wall? Mr. Slim provides all of these
important benefits:
- Quiet and
efficient operation: Mr. Slim runs at as little as 26 dB(A). This means
that you can hold a quiet conversation or sleep without having to worry about
the air conditioner interrupting you.
No ductwork is
required: You will not have to tear up walls or add expensive ductwork to
basement remodels.
- Will not take
up a window: If you take as much pride in your landscape as you do your
home, you will appreciate that you can enjoy your handy work from the inside
now that you have gotten your window view back. If you own a window unit then
you are also concerned with the security issue of someone taking it out and
coming inside your home. Mr. Slim eliminates this concern.
- Effective zone
cooling and heating: True zoning means that you can tailor individual rooms
to your personal comfort tastes. Perhaps you prefer it cooler in the bedroom or
kitchen. Also if do not use your guest rooms, dining room, or bonus room
regularly, why cool them day-in, day-out?
- Versatility:
You can air condition spaces you at first thought impossible because there
is no space for ductwork and you don't want a window unit. Both at the home or
office, Mr. Slim is flexible enough to work in almost any room
environment.
- Remote
controlled operation and timer functions: With Mr. Slim, you can control
your comfort from across the room. The M-series comes with a wireless remote
controller that gives you control of temperature, fan speed, vane operation and
more. Plus a timer function means that you can set Mr. Slim to operate when you
need it to. For example, if you know you arrive home from the office around
6:00 PM, you can set Mr. Slim to turn on at 5:00 PM to begin cooling before you
get there. This means that you are not cooling or heating your home while
you're not there, which saves you money.

How does Mr.
Slim® work?
Simple explanation: Mr. Slim is a ductless split
air conditioning system. If you are familiar with a central system, you have
the basic idea of what a split system is, and outdoor condensing unit and an
indoor evaporator unit. The basic difference between the two is that with the
central system the evaporator unit is typically found in the attic and has
ductwork branched off to the different rooms in your house. With Mr. Slim the
evaporator is actually in the room being air-conditioned. The indoor unit has a
quiet fan that blows across a cold aluminum coil while in the air conditioning
mode. The indoor unit is usually a wall mounted type and this unit is connected
directly to the outdoor unit by copper tubing and control and power wiring. In
the outdoor unit a compressor cycles refrigerant to and from the indoor and
outdoor unit and the room air is cooled or heated based on the direction the
refrigerant flows between the two.
More detailed explanation: Mr. Slim works like any
basic air conditioning system in that the mechanical components employed and
the physical process of evaporation occurs. Mr. Slim is a ductless split design
that simply means the indoor unit is separated from the outdoor unit and is
connected by a gas and a liquid refrigerant line. The outdoor unit is
considered the "hot-side" during the air conditioning process. The "cold-side"
unit is located indoors. In the heating process the compressor reverses this
operation and the heat energy is evaporated in the outdoor unit and the indoor
unit collects this heat energy while a fan blows over the indoor coil and
distributes the warm air into the room. Why should I
consider buying Mr. Slim?
Mitsubishi Electric is the industry leader in ductless air
conditioning technology. Our innovations have defined cutting edge technology
for years. Compare, and you'll see no one surpasses Mr. Slim's performance for
quiet, easy-to-use energy efficient operation. And since our ductless
technology carries the Mitsubishi Electric name, you know every unit is built
to last. The bottom line is that Mr. Slim delivers the ultimate control of
comfort for your home or office. It's true today and will be comfortably
self-evident for years to come. How reliable is Mr.
Slim?
Mitsubishi Electric
designed Mr. Slim to be one of the most reliable air conditioners available.
Because every major component is designed and manufactured by Mitsubishi
Electric, the system operates optimally to give years of worry-free
performance. In the United States we only deal with about ½ of 1 percent
failure rate. The a/c industry averages around 4 percent. The reason for this
can be explained by the fact that most other a/c products on the market are
manufactured with components and parts from an assortment of manufacturers.
This can also affect the product's reliability and longevity. How efficient is Mr. Slim?
With Mr. Slim, efficiency can be measured by the
following ways: its rated energy efficiency and the zone conditioning
proposition.
Rated Efficiency: Mr.Slim models are all tested
and rated against Air Conditioning Institute's (ARI) guidelines for unitary air
conditioners and meet the minimum Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (S.E.E.R.)
of 10.0 as set by the Department of Energy. Mr. Slim models are available in 10
to 13 true S.E.E.R. When comparing S.E.E.R. there is one key factor to
consider. Because Mr. Slim's indoor unit is in the space being conditioned
there is no duct-loss as with central systems. Duct-loss means that energy is
lost as air is forced through ductwork. Though there is not currently an agency
that measures this loss, it is commonly agreed to be around 20%. Mr. Slim
INVERTER models operate at very energy efficient levels due to the variable
speed operation of the compressor in the outdoor unit. These models run between
11 and 13 S.E.E.R.
Zone Conditioning: Zoning is a more efficient way
to air-condition a home. True zoning means that you can tailor individual rooms
to your personal comfort tastes. Perhaps you prefer it cooler in the bedroom or
kitchen. Also if do not use your guest rooms, dining room, or bonus room
regularly, why cool them day-in, day-out? By not conditioning these rooms all
the time you save money. |
